John William Ives, 22, of McAlester was charged Friday with three counts of reckless conduct with a firearm. Twyle D. Montgomery, 35, of McAlester, was charged Wednesday with driving with a suspended license. She pleaded guilty and was fined $100, plus court cost.

Thefts reported at ASU fell in 2004, while burglaries and motor vehicle thefts continued to rise, according to police statistics. “There were no surprises in the numbers,” ASU spokeswoman Terri Shafer said.
AG seeks 18 reduction in auto rates

Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly plans to seek an 18 percent reduction in auto insurance rates for next year. If approved by the state insurance commissioner, the cut would shave almost $200 off the current average statewide premium of $1,099.
Haskell firefighters to get retirement benefits: Council loses alderman; fire substation will get foundation and frame

Haskell City Council on Monday night adopted a resolution providing retirement benefits for the city’s eligible volunteer firefighters. Coverage, which will be provided through the Arkansas Local Police and Fire Retirement System, will include 100 percent of prior service for all eligible employees.
